PREPARATION DETAIL & WASH, OLD PPF REMOVAL & installation, LEVEL 2 PAINT CORRECTION, AND MODESTA CERAMIC COATING
Hey everyone! This week we're proud to feature a true classic on the blog - this dazzling E92 BMW M3 in Signal Green. If this project has taught us anything, it's that working on time capsules like these are truly a labor of love - and the results are well worth it. This rare machine blends performance with classic lines and striking color - creating a timeless, elegant vehicle that any motorist would be proud to own. And for the most part, this vehicle was kept in near-pristine condition due to its low mileage and being lovingly kept in the garage by the owner. There was just one detail holding it back: the 12-year-old paint protection film that was in desperate need of a refresh.
For this car, we underwent a full exterior restoration by safely removing the outdated film, performing a full paint correction, and then locking in the finish with a fresh Modesta ceramic coating for long-lasting gloss and protection. Talk about receiving 5-star treatment!

PREPARATION WASH & DETAIL - STARTING WITH A CLEAN SLATE
A proper restoration starts with proper prep. We went in by giving the vehicle a full preparation wash, which included decontamination and a clay bar treatment to remove both loose and embedded particles, purify the clear coat, and prep the car for film removal.
OLD PAINT PROTECTION FILM REMOVAL
With the surface prepped and freshly cleaned, we moved on to carefully removing the aged paint protection film. While PPF is designed to last 5-10 years, exposure to UVA/UVB rays and various contaminants can take its toll, causing degradation over time that includes yellowing and lifting at the edges, which can trap debris and oxidation underneath, wear down the edges, or damage the clear coat. As such, old film removal requires patience, precision, and the right tools to prevent paint damage. Our team softened the adhesive attaching the film to the car, and then went in with specialized tools and solvents to gently remove all of the residue.
Final cost is dependent on the amount of labor/time and products used to ensure a safe, careful film removal. Generally, cost for removal is $150 for the first hour, and then $85 for each additional hour, but this is just an estimate. Many clients underestimate how labor-intensive safe PPF removal can be — especially on older film that’s bonded to the clear coat. This step is crucial for paint preservation. Trust us, the result is worth the painstaking attention to detail.
LEVEL 2 PAINT CORRECTION: REVITALIZING THE COLOR
Once the film was removed, we assessed the raw paint surface — which showed minor scratches, swirling, oxidation, and haze from years of exposure. We then began our paint correction, which was performed in 2 stages:
- Stage 1: A moderate-strength product was used to reduce oxidation and swirl marks
- Stage 2: A refinement polish was then applied to restore clarity, depth, and gloss
This step can take approximately 8-12 hours. You can't rush art!
NEW PAINT PROTECTION FILM APPLICATION - FULL FRONT PROTECTION
To protect the freshly corrected finish, we applied new full-front paint protection film coverage on the following areas:
- Full hood
- Full fenders
- Front bumper
- Headlights
- Mirrors
- Fog lights
This is a popular configuration for clients who want high-impact zone coverage without doing a full-body wrap. It offers strong clear coat protection that is self-healing and scratch-resistant, defending against rock chips, bugs, and road debris.
Additionally, we elevated the protection package by custom-installing additional coverage on the full roof (custom kit), rear splash, door edge guards, and ¼ A-pillars. These often-overlooked areas take on wear over time — especially with regular driving or parking lot dings. This add-on ensures 360-degree impact protection.
MODESTA BC-08 CERAMIC COATING APPLICATION
The final step: a durable ceramic coating built for daily drivers. The product we used, Modesta BC-08, uses Neosillica Matrix infused with zirconium, which provides deep gloss and glass-like shine, high chemical resistance from things like salt, acid rain, sap, etc., exceptional water repellency and self-cleaning ability, and a thick protective layer that resists micro-marring, scratches, and UVA/UVB damage.
This clear coat bonds to both paint and PPF, sealing in the finish and reducing long-term maintenance. This is an ideal choice for clients who want elite protection.
